A duress
call happens usually when a
..catastrophe is about to occur in the kitchen.
...Sometimes things don't go as planned,
....either you underbake the chocolate cake
.......because your kid decided to make a grilled
.........cheese in the oven and didn't want the
cheese
............to drip on the brown thing in the
pan,
..............(he prefers the cheese to fall
on the bottom
..................and burn, but that's another
story). So he
.................moves the cake and wham it falls
and sinks
...............,,,,,like a quicksand filled pothole.
.......................The cake is now missshaped
in the middle.
.......................Throw it out? No Chance!
Sounds like chocolate
.........................trifle.time.Take a tall
wine or champagne glass,
.......................put some of the awful
looking but great tasting
....................cake soaked in your favorite
liquor (Kahlua, Baileys, ..................Chambord
or Grand Marnier). Next layer some
...............fresh fruit (strawberries, raspberries,
blackberries, etc.)
............Some whip cream another layer of
the cake then fruit
...........then cream .topped with chocolate
sauce maybe some
........toasted almond slivers and tell your
guests and friends
........how you slaved over this spectacular
looking and great
.........tasting simple dessert. Or tell them
your kid story and laugh
............and eat. No May Day but maybe a good
May Night!

How
do you make sugar cookie cut outs that don't break or stick to the inside
of the cookie cut outs?
..When you roll then use a cake spatula under
the thickest part to lift them - also a light dusting of flour on the cut
out helps.
How are
fresh Truffles best stored?
..Assuming of course you mean chocolate truffles.
Refrigerate, gently wrap and in a 1/2 hour or so pull them out. Bring to room
temperature, then, they melt in your mouth. For real truffles - put them back
under the rock they came from.
How can
I make my bread crispy on the outside and soft on the inside?
..Usually steam is needed. A pan of boiling water
in your hot oven will create steam. Put your bread in, open the door to let
excess steam dissipate so only the first layers of the bread will crust and
center will stay soft.
